Security Restoration
Reality: Clean Recovery or Repeat Infection
Most fast recoveries lead to re-infection, so we rebuild every system with completely clean, verified, and real-world tested methods, so that no hidden viruses will ever return. Our restoration playbook is built from live incidents, including full rebuilds on Hyper‑V, on-prem Exchange migrations to Azure hybrid, and bare-metal returns when images were no longer reliable.
Recovery takes place in a separate safe zone with dedicated DNS/egress; zero trust to production.
Identity and admin systems are cleaned and rebuilt.
The switch happens only when all data is green, and fallback is present.
The first 24 hours after a cyber attack are the most crucial.
In the first 24 hours, we do containment that meets the requirements of legal insurance and actually stops the spread of the attack. We consider every system as compromised and then stabilize the core services and start rebuilding.
First of all, isolate the infected device, remove the attacker's tokens, and if necessary, change the AD master key.
Firewalls block malware communication, block unnecessary network movement, and disable older, weaker protocols.
Safe admin systems are created, and all logs are saved for future investigation by keeping them safe with the correct time.
Identity Rebuild: AD/Azure AD Without Ghosts
We rebuild Active Directory (AD) and Azure AD without leaving behind any old viruses, backdoors, or attacker ghosts. That means the identity system is made absolutely fresh and clean. We completely clean-rebuild the identity system, tighten admin security, and only allow rejoining systems that are proven-clean, so attackers can’t break in through the identity again.

-
AD is completely verified by doing a clean rebuild, and admins are given strong MFA. -
Only secure devices can log in, and there are immediate alerts on risky logins. -
Admin rights are not permanent; they are granted only for a limited period of time with approval (PIM/JIT).
Hyper‑V & Bare‑Metal: When Images Lie
When the backup is not trusted (it has been tampered with by malware), it is better to waste time understanding or removing malware. Create a new, clean server by directly doing a fresh install.
- Hyper-V host, storage, and cluster are completely secure and validated.
- There is a clear plan to rebuild every critical system from scratch.
- After the incident, clean server templates are created, and there is continuous checking to keep them safe in the future.
IPMI/BMC Isolation: Keep the Skeleton Key Off the Network
At the time of response, people often forget to secure out-of-band controllers (iLO, DRAC, IPMI) but attackers try to enter back through these overlooked systems, so we keep them in a separate secure network (OOB network). Access in that network is limited, recorded, and approval-based so that no one can silently delete your recovery.
- Attackers cannot access them through the internet or any infected system.
- Any access is monitored, controlled, and temporary.
- If an attacker tampers, upgrades/rollbacks, or tries to log in, you know right away.
Segmentation & Egress: Build Lanes Before You Drive
Putting the systems back on the same old flat network after recovery is a big risk. Therefore, first, different lanes (segments) are created: Corporate lane, Production lane, Management lane, and then in each lane, only allowed systems can talk. Outbound traffic also goes only to business-approved destinations. This stops the spread of attackers and makes it difficult to exfiltrate data.
- Internal traffic is completely closed, and only properly approved exceptions are opened for a short period of time.
- Cameras will not be connected to the internet, VoIP will only be connected to the telecom provider, and OT systems will be accessed through a fully controlled gateway.
- Traffic going out of the network is tightly controlled so that attackers cannot extract data or connect to external servers.

Backups You Can Trust: Immutability + Proved Restores
Backup systems are often the target of attackers. Therefore, just taking a backup is not enough; it is important to make it immutable and test it regularly. We ensure that Bacups: Can never be deleted or modified (worm/object-locked), Admin access is controlled and secured with MFA, Last-clean dates are verified during restore so that insurance/carrier accepts.
- Backups are kept secure and unchangeable, and can only be accessed by authorized, strongly protected administrators.
- Off-site copy is always safe and ready for emergencies, and is fully monitored.
- Reliability and clean status of backups are proven by doing regular restore tests, so that there is acceptance in insurance and audit.

Applications First: Email, ERP, File Sequenced Cutovers
In recovery, business-critical applications are restored first, so that users can get their work done quickly. Users want email and data access first, dashboards or non-critical apps later. The restore is done step-by-step (sequence) so that risk remains contained and business operations are not affected.
Users can do external communication only after their email and identity are secure.
Data is first secured and verified, then full access is given.
Older or unofficial systems will only reconnect if verified and safe.
Proof Package: Make the Adjuster’s Job Easy
There are often delays in the insurance claims process after a cyber incident because adjusters want verification of everything. That’s why we create a complete proof package that answers all the questions: what happened when (timeline), what controls were put in place (controls matrix), how the restoration happened (restoration proof), making the insurance renewal or claims process quick and smooth, and preventing repeat crises.
Have a complete timeline of events ready to show the insurance adjuster, so nothing is in doubt.
The adjuster gets to know what security measures have been implemented and the approvals.
The adjuster can see that each system is verified clean and officially approved.
Wichita Execution: Local, On‑Site, No Drama
The company is Wichita-based, and when needed, all rebuilding is done on-site. Routers, switches, VLANs, policies, etc., are managed at the local site only. Executives aren’t confused by technical jargon; updates are delivered in plain English. Result: Recovery is smooth, no unnecessary drama or confusion.
- The team and executives are always aware, no surprises.
- Rebuild progress is transparent and trackable for everyone.
- Executives can see how resources and timelines are performing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, we start same-day recovery. The first 24 hours are critical, so containment, identity, rebuild, and safe restoration begin immediately.
No, because the restore occurs in a “clean zone” and a complete rebuild of the identity system is performed. We do not allow old systems, credentials, or backdoors back into the network.
If the backup or image is infected, then yes – clean rebuild is the safest method. We do all Hyper-V, bare-metal, and Azure Hybrid rebuilds.
Yes – we create a new segmented network after recovery: Corporate Lane, Production Lane, Management Lane. Only approved systems can be connected in each lane.
No, because we isolate them in a separate secure OOB network. Access is approval-based, monitored, and recorded.
